Spring, early afternoon, I
was plein air painting at Traderhorn Lake in Mississippi. A quietness filled
the air as the water was rushing against the shore In a distance I could hear
two men talking, one yelled, "I caught one". As I took a closer look at the boat I didn’t
see a person At that time I realized how much painting is like
fishing. When you are fishing you are sitting still in the moment waiting
for the big fish. When you are painting you are in the moment waiting for the
light or just the right emotion to create in a painting.
I paint "Life on Canvas" specializing in portraiture, my goal is to capture a moment in time. - www.glendabrown.com Several months go into planning and painting a commissioned portrait. As practice and discipline I started creating small daily paintings. I paint en plein air to keep my skills accurate always learning. Sharing my knowledge and teaching workshops is rewarding. Lets face it, I just love to Paint and Share :-)

Early morning plein air painting
These 2 paintings were painted at my cousin’s lake home located in Traderhorn Mississippi. Early morning was absolutely the best time to paint because all of the atmospheric pressure and it didn’t get dark on me. Since I don’t live on a lake getting to paint this early in the morning was a treat for me. Plein air painting is so much fun when the weather conditions are good. This morning was perfect!

Being with nature is contentment
Earlier in the month of June I drove my mother to her 70th
class reunion and visited different relatives in the heart of Mississippi. The
weather was perfect. Visiting with family was great! In this area of
Mississippi there was “NO SERVICE” that met, no cell, no Internet, no nothing
for 3 days. Needless to say, I was very thankful I took my art supplies. While
visiting my sweet cousin we slipped away to talk while I painted.
Painting, being with nature, is contentment deep in the
soul.
I wanted time to stand still.
The “No Cell Service” signal didn’t matter.

The perfect creative gift… She brought me a 4x6 old yellowed newspaper
clipping her husband had saved for years. The article was a photo of her
husband’s grandfather’s mill. Last month
Selena Bragg commissioned me to paint her husband a father’s day. This surprise
gift is something the family will treasure for generations.
Painting is oil on linen – size 15x24
